FREE SONAR LESSON #7

WHY IS THERE NO SHADOW BEHIND OBJECTS?

Have you ever spotted a bright underwater object on side imaging but couldn't find its shadow?

Many anglers expect rocks, logs, fish, and other underwater objects to create a dark acoustic shadow on the lake bottom.

But sometimes, an object produces a strong sonar return without leaving an obvious shadow.

Does that mean the object is flat? Or that it isn't really there? Not necessarily!
